A Visit to ‘The Land’: Earthly Inspiration, Then and NOW!

Earth Day brought Foragers deep into the heart of Hayden’s grandmother’s riverside community, fondly referred to as ‘ The Land’ — a tucked-away, ecologically-minded haven nestled among the redwoods along the Garcia River.

This historic land, held with care and intention, opened its gates to our curious crew for a day of planting, frolicking, and deep sensory exploration. Students planted strawberry starts and personal seedlings, and explored the life abounding in Ginny’s flourishing garden. Students noticed pollinators darting between blossoms, and ran with full freedom through the sun-warmed meadow.

Down past the towering trees, a narrow trail led students through lush forest, to the glimmering Garcia river. Tiny feet and wide eyes enjoyed tossing rocks, testing currents, and marveling at the sparkling cold—this was Earth Day done the Forager way. There was even a crocodile spotting… or was that a floating log?

We are deeply grateful to Hayden’s family for welcoming us into such a sacred space. What a gift it was to dig, play, and breathe in this storied place.
