Spring Foraging with Teacher T

A note from our outdoor education specialist…

Teacher T here, checking in with a note about spring semester’s off-site excursions:

We have settled on a favorite spot for our bi-monthly Foraging Days: Woodchip Land! This slice of wilderness offers so many learning opportunities for the students: from the walk that takes us past familiar spots (we almost always run into a smiling community member), to the plethora of salamanders and multipurpose pine stumps, we have found the perfect place to extend natural learning initiatives outside of the classroom.

The chance to witness the changes of nature in a spot we return to again and again is invaluable for the Forager’s observational skills, creativity, and respect of our local ecosystem. When asked about a favorite memory of a Foraging Day at Woodchip Land, one student excitedly recalled, “the banana slug party!”

We love our banana slugs at the Forager School!!
